All year over rocky bottoms with caves. It is nocturnal: fish for it mainly at night, best in the colder months.

Natural baits

  • Squid
  • Sardine
  • Prawn
  • Crab

How to recognise it

Reddish brown, with a chin barbel, pelvic fins reduced to two long filaments and dark-edged fins with a thin white margin.

Tip

At night on the bottom, with squid or sardine tight to the rocks: it bites firmly and immediately heads for its cave.
