Spring to early autumn on the rocky coast of Cádiz (Chipiona, Rota, Conil, Tarifa), with a calm sea, clear water and a moving tide.

Natural baits

  • Live crab
  • Cuttlefish
  • Squid
  • Sardine

How to recognise it

Like a large red porgy, pink with 4–5 reddish vertical bands and a steep, curved forehead; adults have a darker back.

Tip

The queen of Cádiz's rocks: live crab tight to the stones, strong tackle and a tight drag, because it bolts for the rocks as soon as it feels the hook.
